This is turning into an "unedited" series lol but I'm really happy that I'm relying less and less on Photoshop. It's taken a while to understand why photographers are often anti-photoshop but I'm starting to get it. I still think it's an amazing tool but it does kind of cheapen the art so I'm gonna keep trying to get the best possible results on-camera and then consider touching up after :)

And i bet you shoot jpegs instead of raw.
TFKE: I don't really get the point of this comment but you bet wrong. And when I did shoot JPEG it was coz I didn't know any better, everyone knows there's a learning curb with photography like everything else
The point of the comment is how does using photoshop cheapen the art of photography, i take it you have never gone into a darkroom and printed your own prints.People have twiddled with their images for donkeys years.
TFKE: First off this being MY blog I'm well within my right to have my own opinion, and for me personally photoshop cheapened the art because I didn't completely understand my camera and would shoot blindly knowing I could tweak and edit later.

Secondly I still love using photoshop and will continue to do so, I'm just taking time now to fully understand photography itself without anticipating all the ways I can alter a photograph in post production. If you go through my archive you will see just how much I've used photoshop in the past.

I've never worked in a dark room and I don't see why this is something I should be ashamed of. I'm an amateur photographer just learning the ropes and trying to improve my skill with time. Working in a dark room is one of my biggest dreams but unfortunately the opportunity hasn't presented itself. Congratulations on being a big shot pro but that doesn't give you the right to talk condescendingly to others.
Great photo, great composition, great shot.

I really do not understand the huge deal about shooting RAW or shooting JPEG, for if one is confident with one's skills, it really does not matter which format the photographs were shot. I have seen very impressive images shot with the humble iphone.
In my opinion, working in the dark room does not validate one's credibility as a photographer. A photographer's credibility should be judged on the images produced, not the process of production.
I also subscribe to the notion that the misuse of photoshop cheapens photography. One should be able to produce images without any thought of depending on any editing software to enhance these images.
p.s condescending comments have never helped anyone. Isn't it better to be quiet than give these comments?
Oh dear, havent i opened a can of worms all i can say is one mans drink is another mans poison..
Well having read all these comments, and knowing Michael, I think you are missing the point, what he's saying is, is that photos have always been altered in the darkroom, you don't think any less of Ansell Adams pictures because he spent hours in a darkroom 'making them right', It was all part of his artistry, now with photoshop, we can all have a chance to try and emulate our photographic heros/heroines. Of course you should try and achieve the best results in camera, but this is not always possible, you are making it sound as if any photo that needs post production is not valid! As for Michael being a' big shot pro',well, I don't think he said anything to warrant that kind of comment, photography is all about seeing, and you see a lot more with an open mind, I hope you will take these comments in the spirit they are intended, and that you achieve what you want in your photography, after all it's yourself you want to satisfy, no one else, although, it is always nice to do that as well.
TFKE: You're able to vouch for him because you know him but as someone who has no idea who he is I read his tone in an unpleasant manner and don't think he was trying to be helpful, he was just miffed by my opinion and felt the need to say something.

Being that neither of you knows ME you in turn "missed the point" of what I said in the first place. My last 2 posts have been special to me because I am prone to an OVER-RELIANCE on photoshop due to a lack of understanding of my camera.

They are an indication of growth for me and not a denunciation of photoshop. Like I said in my last response I love using photoshop and will continue to do so. But not understanding my camera and hands-on photography because of my dependence on photoshop is in my opinion something that cheapens the art. I have never seen an unedited photograph from my favourite photographer Yulia Gorbachenko but I still adore her work all the same. This post was not an "attack on photoshop", all of my comments are personal to me and MY photography, not photography in general. To each his own as Michael said, one man's drink another man's poison.

I strongly believe in constructive criticism and if he'd said something that could contribute to my growth I would've appreciated it. However he passed a very cheeky remark to begin with and to me it was in bad taste and unnecessary
Well thanks for your reply, but, I think if you read your own remarks again, you do state that Photoshop 'cheapens the art',not just yours,so by inference, you are insulting anyone that uses it, hence michael was a touch annoyed, understandably,I think this is just a misunderstanding that can happen in print,it's a lot easier to express an opinion face to face, and I know exactly what you mean about the satisfaction of not having to alter a shot after taking it, so let's leave it at that, I hope you continue to master your camera, and enjoy using Photoshop! Viva photography, best wishes, Frank.
TFKE: My intention was certainly not to insult anyone including myself, that's a tad extreme. However for the sensitive few I'll be sure to choose my words more carefully in the future.
I appreciate the tone of your response, standing by your point as respectfully as possible! Viva photography, Viva photoshop!

As a side note I really enjoyed going through your archive smile
